"I’m inspired by anyone who can write a truly great play. To engage an audience for 2 or so hours with only words, that’s a real skill."
Ben Walter is one of Melbourne’s most exciting up and coming talents.
He’s an actor and producer, currently running his own independent theatre company and starring in productions across the city.
We caught up with him to get a feel for where he’s going over the coming years.
Tell us a bit about yourself.
My name is Ben Walter and I’m 20 years old.
I’m an actor and producer based in Melbourne. I currently run an independent theatre company called Patalog Collective.
Since finishing high school I’ve been studying Arts at the University of Melbourne, and performing in independent theatre around Melbourne.
When did you first discover your passion for acting?
I’ve been acting since I was about 14, mostly in school shows, but I had a real love for it.
I’ve been fortunate enough to since work in a set construction work shop which really just increased my love for story-telling, particularly in the theatre.
Last year I started a small independent theatre company focused on giving young people a proper chance at performing on some of Melbourne’s best independent stages.
What would be your dream role?
I think every stage actor dreams of playing Hamlet.
There’s also a Simon Stephen’s play called Birdland with a knock-out lead role which I’d absolutely love to have a crack at. I’m actually thinking of producing that show at some point in the future, so keep an eye out!
Which actors/artists inspire you?
I’m inspired by anyone who can write a truly great play. I really am in awe of it; to engage an audience for 2 or so hours with only words, that’s a real skill.
