We'll work in the studio with a live monitor, then you'll get to review your shortlisted images and choose your favourite, either before you leave or later from a private online gallery if you'd like to get a second opinion. Your chosen portrait receives a natural edit and is prepared for print and web. Ideal for LinkedIn, business, graduates or a first professional portrait.

A little more time gives us a little more room to explore. We'll photograph two distinct wardrobe looks in the studio, giving you more variety when the same portraits need to work across LinkedIn, your website, speaker profiles or social media. You'll see everything on the live monitor as we shoot, then review your shortlisted images in an online gallery and choose your favourites. Your chosen portraits receive a natural edit and are prepared for print and web, with additional images available if you'd like them. Ideal for professionals, actors and anyone refreshing their personal brand.

A note about session time
The biggest difference between the sessions isn’t how many images you walk away with. It’s how much time we have to work together.
Every session is photographed with the same care, attention and direction. More time simply gives us the freedom to relax into the shoot, explore different wardrobe options, make use of the natural light around the studio, and discover a wider range of expressions and stories.
A shorter session is often all you need if you’re after one great portrait. A longer session gives us the opportunity to create a broader collection of images, each with its own purpose.

Signature is the session most people land on, and it’s easy to see why. The extra time is where the shoot opens up. We move past a single studio look into the natural-light portraits Julian is known for, work through a few wardrobe changes, and give expression the room it needs to feel real rather than posed.
Julian’s background is in actor headshots, a genre where directing a nervous subject into a believable expression is most of the job. That’s what the extra time in a Signature session buys you: not just more frames, but the space to find the one that actually works, whether it’s headed for LinkedIn, a casting portal, or a book jacket. A live review monitor means you see it happening as we go, so you leave knowing you’ve got the shot.
Frequently asked questions
Can you arrange a makeup artist for me?
Yes. I can arrange one of my trusted makeup artists to join us in the studio for $295. They’ll create a natural photographic look, stay while we get started so we can check everything under the studio lighting and, if you’ve booked a Signature or Portfolio session, in natural light as well. Once we’re happy and any final touch-ups have been made, they’ll leave us to continue the session.
Professional makeup is optional. Some clients choose to do their own, while others prefer to arrive camera-ready after visiting their own trusted makeup artist beforehand. If you’re doing your own makeup, I’ll send you a few simple preparation notes to help you achieve a natural look that photographs well.
What should I wear?
Solid colours generally photograph best, especially mid-tones that help keep the focus on you rather than what you’re wearing. As a starting point, colours that complement your eyes often work beautifully too—blues for blue eyes, and greens, olives or earthy browns for green or hazel eyes.
As a guide, bring two outfit options for each look you’re hoping to create, so we’ll have plenty to choose from on the day. Layers are always worth bringing too. A favourite jacket, blazer or overshirt is an easy way to create another look without changing your entire outfit.
Please make sure your clothing is clean, well-fitting and in good condition. Bringing garments on hangers is ideal, although neatly folded is perfectly fine if you’re travelling.
Once you’re booked, I’ll send through a detailed wardrobe guide with plenty of tips and examples to help you prepare.
Can I purchase extra images?
Yes. Every session includes a set number of chosen portraits, and you’re welcome to add more once you’ve viewed your online gallery. Additional portraits are available from $55 each, with the same natural edit, ready for print and web.
How long does editing take?
You’ll see your online proof gallery within 48 hours of the shoot. Once you’ve made your selections, final retouched files are delivered within five business days. Our retouching is done in-house and kept natural, refined, not airbrushed, so you still look like yourself.
Do you help with posing?
Absolutely. Most people don’t feel completely comfortable in front of a camera, and that’s perfectly normal. I’ll guide you through everything, from standing with confident posture to finding relaxed, authentic expressions. Whether we’re aiming for a genuine smile or something more thoughtful, I’ll coach you through the process so nothing ever feels forced. We’ll review the portraits together on a live monitor as we go, recognising the moments that feel the most natural and tell the right story.
Can we shoot outdoors?
Absolutely. Signature and Portfolio sessions include natural-light portraits. We have numerous locations just around the Brunswick East studio that we regularly use to create the cinematic look you’ll see throughout my portfolio.
Melbourne weather is notoriously unpredictable, but that’s all part of the process. Between the different locations and the way I work with available light, we can create beautiful natural-light portraits throughout the day and in almost any weather conditions.
Natural light brings a softer, more atmospheric feel to the portraits, making it particularly well suited to actors, authors, personal branding and anyone looking for images with a little more story than a traditional studio backdrop.
Do you photograph kids and teens?
Absolutely. Whether your child or teen needs a single portrait for a cast announcement or a first portfolio for agency representation and professional casting opportunities, we’re happy to discuss the right session based on their age, experience and goals.
Please note that for anyone under 18, a parent or guardian is required to remain present throughout the entire session.
